Critical History
The sculpture of St John the Baptist in Regional Museum Maribor was attributed to Joseph Straub by Sergej Vrišer.1 It is said that the sculpture originated from the Carthusian monastery in Žiče. Vrišer highlighted that the sculpture is one of the sculptor’s best works.2
Construction / Execution
Sculpture is made of wood. It has naturalistic painting with gilded drapery and a silver cross. The lamb is silvered.

Comment
Gilded camel-skin robe is abraded on several locations and the red bole is seen. There is a visible crack on the sealed part of the left hand.
