Critical History
The sculpture of St John of Nepomuk was attributed to Joseph Straub by Sergej Vrišer. He pointed out the significant similarities, specifically with respect to the drapery, with Joseph Straub’s works in Selnica ob Dravi and Podlehnik as well as with other documented works.1
Its conception as a free-standing sculpture placed on the console is considered an exception in Joseph Straub’s opus. We do not know its original location, but it is often suggested in the literature that it originates from Studenci.
Construction / Execution
The sculpture is made of wood. It is placed on the wooden console. The sculpture has naturalistic painting. The drapery and the console are imitating gold.
