International Conference: Results and Synthesis of the Art of Straub Family
The University of Graz, Institute for Art History, hosted the international Conference of the Project “Tracing the Art of the Straub Family”. The bilingual symposium with the name Results and Synthesis of the Art of the Straub Family was organised by Prof. Margit Stadlober, Dr. Eva Klein and Christina Pichler, BA BA MA (Institute for Art History, University of Graz).
Project participants from Germany, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria as well as guests of honour, experts and students gathered to join the event, which took place at the atmospheric neo-baroque palace of Kottulinsky.
After the greeting and introduction by Prof. Margit Stadlober and Dr. Eva Klein, Dr. Ulrich Becker (Collections Curator of Universalmuseum Joanneum) opened the lecture series with his interesting speech on the problem of the presentation of baroque sculptures in museums. He was followed by doctoral student Christina Pichler, BA BA MA, who presented new results on the sculptural decorations of the Church of Our Lady in Pernegg/Mur and its relations to the artworks by Philipp Jakob Straub. After a short break with refreshments, the head of the TrArS-project, Dr. Ksenija Škarić, discussed the polychromy of the Croatian Corpus, followed by art historians Dr Martina Ožanić (Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Conservation Department in Zagreb) and Dr Martina Wolff Zubović (Croatian Conservation Institute), who presented their results of their research on Franz Anton Straub. After them, art historian Valentina Pavlič (University of Ljubljana) spoke about new discoveries concerning the artworks by Joseph Straub. She was followed by Julia Strobl, MA MA (PhD-student, Institute of Art History, University of Vienna), who talked about the latest results of her archival research on the Straub family in Wiesensteig.
The symposium was held in German and English, so that everyone in the audience could benefit from it and followed the goal of the European Union to force the cooperation between scientists and experts from different nations.
