Critical History

The sculpture of Ascending Christ is placed on a confessional made by Mirko Turkalj in 1986. It bears stylistic features of Franz Anton Straub's artwork, showing particular resemblance with the sculptural group of Baptism in the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kloštar Ivanić.1 Archival sources do not mention the sculpture and its origin stays unknown. The high altar together with its tabernacle is earlier than this sculpture and there are no written confirmations that it was ordered for the church in Kutina. However, relatively nearby Velika Ludina do have tabernacle by Franz Anton Straub lacking the original sculpture of Ascending Christ to be displayed during the Passion period.
