Study visit to Vienna

Partners from Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Croatia met on 27 and 28 November in Vienna for a study visit and a joint working meeting of the technical expert group and expert group for research into the work of Johann Baptist Straub. The gathering was admirably organised by Julia Strobl, MA, Professor Ingeborg Schemper, PhD, and Elena Holzhausen, MA. The partners had the honour of being joined by Professor Peter Steiner, PhD, one of the most distinguished experts on Johann Baptist Straub.

The Activities of the Straub Brothers in Hungary – field research

Researchers from the Straub project, Ingeborg Schemper and Julia Strobl (Vienna, Austria), Valentina Pavlič and Saša Dolinšek (Slovenia), and Martina Ožanić and Martina Wolff Zubović (Croatia), visited the parish churches in Szécsisziget and Egervar and the Franciscan church in Nagykanisza on 25 September.

The Fight with the Dragon: an examination of the first of two high altars created by Johann Baptist Straub

The examination of the high altar in the succursal church of St George in Munich-Bogenhausen opened the file of examinations in Bavarian churches. Starting on 1 August, Lea Rechenauer, student in the conservation and restoration program of the Stuttgart Academy of Art and Design, and Rupert Karbacher, coordinator of the Bavarian project team, looked eagerly at the work of Johann Baptist Straub and tried to discern similarities and differences in his work. They will discuss the results of the examination with the other members of the Bavarian team, Dr Martin Mannewitz and graduate restorers Andreas Müller and Judith Schekulin.

Second General Meeting in Ljubljana

Slovenian partners organized and hosted the Second General Meeting of the TrArS project on 13 and 14 June 2018. The meeting was held at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Restoration Center. The participants were welcomed by Jernej Hudolin, Managing Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, and Robert Peskar, PhD, Head Conservator of Slovenia.
